As the name implies. This blog contains randomness from the life of a liberal arts PhD. Mostly rants from my life with a bit of academic hoopla as well.

Getting Lazy
So, I'm getting lazy. Probably not going to help me. It's true what they say about starting your day off right. Well today I started off with a Grande Soy Cafe Mocha with a shot of vanilla and a chicken sausage wrap from Starbucks. I wouldn't call this an exactly "right" start to the day, but it wasn't so bad. The coffee had me dehydrated so I was drinking water all through the morning. Then came lunch, and the invite to the local Chinese buffet. I tried not to eat anything fried and tons of veggies. Well, everyone else at the table got up for a second plate and pressured me to get up. Of course I went for the crab Rangoon and spring rolls. I am so WEAK! After all the rippin and runnin all day long I got home and did not feel like working out. I'll do my crunches and sit ups before bed, but the cardio has been 86ed for the night.

Day??
Today started off well... I woke and had a great breakfast of turkey bacon and eggs with spinach and tomatoes. I enjoyed a brisk 2 mile walk then enjoyed a nice Sunday afternoon drive. The day went downhill when I ate 1 and a half slices of jerk chicken and pineapple pizza. Bad idea... but at least I had my fruit. I'll try again tomorrow.

Day 3&4: No Laziness
Days 3 and 4 were a fail. Point blank. Fell off the wagon already. But getting it together for today.

Day 2:No Laziness
Day two was very busy. That's my excuse anyways. I had bunches of grading to do, so I couldn't work on any of my writing or reading goals. I did, have a good eating day (cereal, organic chili, turkey sandwich). I also managed to sneak in some sit-ups and push-ups before I went to bed. I was exhausted!

Day 1: No Laziness
Today I woke up early to get to campus because I needed to get some work done on my article. I emailed my collaborators to see where they were in the editing process. One had gotten sidetracked and the other is waiting on my edits, which I can't complete until I get edits from the other one. AAAAAHHHHHH!!
I ate a lot of fruit today at school, instead of my normal 3:15 M&M break I had a clementine. Then I ate my grapes towards the end of the day. I was so excited when I was able to break out and get home for Zumba. Before I even started Zumba I put a load of clothes in the washing machine. I did the Wii Zumba for 20 minutes... then came dinner time and another load of laundry. My dinner plans changed and instead of making the healthy meal I had planed, I saw the left over hot wings SOMEBODY left in my refrigerator and scarfed those things down. I just couldn't resist! It was only day one though, give me a break!
Ok, Day 1 wasn't so bad. I did some emailing, healthy food eating, some exercises, and washed clothes.
Now for Day 2.

Operation No Laziness
I have instituted many "operations" in the past and have been unsuccessful, partly due to my own laziness.
According to Wikipedia (the best source of information ever!! j/k)
"Laziness (also called indolence) is a disinclination to activity or exertion despite having the ability to do so. It is often used as a pejorative; related terms for a person seen to be lazy include couch potato, slacker, and bludger."
So, for Lent, I have decided to give up one of my more annoying qualities, laziness. For 40 days I will strive to be less lazy in order to accomplish some mini goals I have set for myself. My goals are as follows:
1. Start and finish reading Words of Fire: An Anthology of African-American Feminist Thought by Beverly Guy-Sheftall (http://books.google.com/books/about/Words_of_fire.html?id=TFKRZ9uqA6cC)
2. Lose 10 pounds
3. Finish editing an article I need to get out for publication
4. Don't let my clothes overflow the hamper (trivial, but a needed goal)
My hope is that during these 40 days I will blog every day about what I have done to move toward the accomplishments of my goals or what held me back. Putting this out in the blogosphere will hopefully make me more accountable for my actions. I even put the Blogger app on my cell phone.
I also want the lack of laziness to carry over after Lent is completed. I have great support at home to motivate me, now I have to find the motivation within myself.
Operation #nolaziness is in full effect!!
